Matar Paratha recipe (Pea Paratha)

In a while when peas have priority green peas definitely get preference. The Matar Paratha recipe (Pea Paratha) is very easy to make and it is very tasty and delicious. You can prepare matar parathas quickly for kids or office lunch boxes. Potato peas vegetables and casseroles are made in almost all homes. Pea parathas are also made with the same filling as potato parathas, except instead of potatoes, peas are used.

Ingredients for Matar Paratha

Green peas                        200 grams (peeled)
Wheat flour                       03 cups
Gram flour                        01 tbsp (roast)
Onion                                01 (medium size) (chop finely)
Green chili                        02 (chop finely)
Cumin Seeds (Jeera)         1/2 Tsp
Red chili powder               1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder              1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves               1/4 cup (finely chopped)
Ginger                               01 inch piece (make paste)
Garam masala                  1/2 tsp
salt                                    as per taste
Oil                                     For frying the parathas and dipping them in flour

Green Peas Paratha recipe

Step-01
Prepare to stuff

  • First of all, put peeled peas and water in a big pot, and soak it overnight.
  • On the second day, put water and peas in a pressure cooker and boil for one whistle. Switch off the gas and let the cooker cool down.
  • Now place a pan on medium heat, add oil, and heat it.
  • When the oil becomes hot, add cumin seeds to it, when it starts crackling, add chopped onions, ginger paste, and green chilies and fry till it turns light brown.
  • Now add red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to it and roast it. Add some garam masala to it and mix well.
  • You can also mash the peas coarsely with a potato masher or a spoon beforehand.
  • Add boiled peas to it and mash it well by pressing with a ladle. Add 1 tbsp roasted gram flour and mix.
  • Now add chopped coriander and mix, and turn off the gas flame. Your stuffing is ready. Keep it aside.

Step-02
Prepare the dough

  • Take 3 cup flour in a big bowl, add ½ tsp salt and 1 tsp oil, and mix it well.
  • Now add water gradually and start kneading. Do not add too much or less water while kneading the dough.
  • Knead soft and smooth dough like roti. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for about 25 minutes.

Step-03
Make Stuffed Pea Parathas

  • Make small balls of the dough and with the help of a rolling pin, roll it into two rounds of about 4 to 5 inches in diameter.
  • Now place green pea stuffing on one and cover it with the other to seal the edges well.
  • Dust the rolling pin lightly with flour and roll it into a 7-8 inch circle.
  • Sprinkle flour as needed while rolling.

Step-04
Make Matar Paratha

  • Now put the tawa on the gas and heat it. Put the paratha on a hot griddle and fry on medium to high flame.
  • When cooked on one side, flip the paratha. And apply oil on top of the paratha.
  • Flip the matar paratha again and apply some oil on this side.
  • Fry the parantha by pressing it with a ladle so that it cooks well.
  • Cook the paratha till it turns light golden brown.

Step-05
Serve paratha

Serve the Matar Paratha recipe hot-hot with pickle, green chutney, or red chutney.
